“When I walked out the doors of the Austin airport it felt like I got punched in the face by heat. It pretty much feels exactly like when you’re cooking something in the oven and you open the door quickly. Yeah, that feeling. It was evening when I arrived at the hotel so I pretty much knew we weren’t going to be riding that night. I met up with the dudes and we made plans to meet up at 7 a.m. for some breakfast. 7 a.m. you say? It might seem a little early to go out and ride, but down in Austin you have to get out at that time to try and beat the heat. The whole time we were down there, by the time it hit noon it was in the high 90’s. So anytime after that is brutal to try and ride in. We made a plan that everyday we would go out early and get some riding in, then we would chill and do fun stuff during the day, then try and ride a bit more at night. But to tell you the truth, the idea of riding at night didn’t happen that much. Usually we were too drained from all the heat…or all the swimming we did.
We tried to hit a lot of the better-known spots that Austin has, we did it that way cause we had a minimal amount of days. We hit the House Park a couple of times for a session. In fact that’s the first spot we went to on day one. It was a treat to watch Chase ride at his local park. Dude has got lines for days in the bowl there. And it was great to see Kriss feed off that and bring his own style of riding into that park. He can blast airs with the best of them and be super steezy, or he can throw down the wild tech ramp riding. He busted out, what I can describe it as, is a flair 720 tail tap, if that makes any sense. We also hit a newer park that’s about an hour outside of Austin in a town called Pflugerville that was pretty damn awesome. It amazes me when you go to such an amazing park and there is not a soul there. And of course we had to hit the legendary 5-hip ditch and the T1 ramp. Kriss tore apart the T1 ramp blasting airs everywhere. He did a huge pocket air there that not many do. It was awesome to see him ride there – it really gets you stoked on riding.
We also did a lot of fun activities and chilling out. One day we went to a gun range to shoot a handgun. I mean, come on, you’re in Texas; you have to shoot a gun. Kriss and Chase were both super nervous about it because neither of them had ever fired a gun before. Chase was way more nervous; in fact he almost backed out, but we got him to fire one shot, and after that shot he was out. It also turns out that Kriss is a pretty decent shot.
This little trip was over before we knew it but even with the brutal heat we all still had a blast.” - Keith Terra
